Exploring Nature’s Haven: An excursion to Dhudwa Tiger Reserve

Published on: 16 Jan 2024

On 23rd December, 2023, we went for an excursion to Dhudwa Tiger Reserve in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Lucknow. It was an amazing trip as we had many DARE activities to undertake like the Jungle safari, a thrilling walk through the teal and sal forest, a journey to the Indo-Nepal Border along with a visit to the Tharu tribal village and on the final day a jungle safari to catch a sight of the ‘big cats’. In one such DARE activity, I cooked Paneer tika in a primitive style and in another Dare activity, we went in search of a buffalo skull in the full moon night in order to find answer to a hair raising story of a man eating tiger called ‘Tara’.  On the wee hours of the morning, we went for the jungle safari in anticipation of the mighty tigers.  We were all indeed lucky. After spending around 1 hour in the forest, we finally saw the majestic tiger crossing the road and marking its territory. We were filled with awe and excitement at this rare sight. We had no complaint in spite of the fact that we were stranded at the Kanpur station for 18 hours as we were carrying back with us memories to cherish for life.
