MCKV Launches Space Laboratory to Inspire Future Scientists

M. C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth added a new dimension to experiential learning with the inauguration of its Space Laboratory on 18 June 2026. The event was graced by eminent space scientist, Dr Debasish Chakraborty, Former Scientist and Head (Applications), RRSC/NRSC/ISRO, Kolkata, as the Guest of Honour, along with Chairman, Mr Kishan Kumar Kejriwal, Director Mr Neelkantha Gupta, Trustee, Mr Abhay Kejriwal, Dr Abhijit Lahiri, Principal of MCKVIE, Principal, Mr Biswajit Majumdar, Senior School Headmistress, Ms Gargi Mukherjee and Junior School Headmistresses, Ms Keka Mukherjee.

The ceremony began with a ribbon-cutting in the newly established Space Lab in the presence of students and teachers. One of the first facilities of its kind in Howrah, the laboratory features interactive models, simulations, hands-on activities, and facilities for astronomical observation.

Addressing the students, Dr Chakraborty applauded MCKV’s initiative and highlighted the growing importance of space education. He spoke about the contributions of Vikram Sarabhai, India’s achievements through Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan, and the vast career opportunities in space science in India, encouraging students to nurture curiosity and scientific thinking.

An interactive question-and-answer session allowed students to engage directly with the scientist. The highlight of the event was the rocket-launch demonstration in the presence of the dignitaries and students. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Aruna Gaur, the Head of Department, Physics, marking a significant milestone in MCKV’s journey of fostering scientific inquiry, innovation, and exploration.
