MCKV Debating Circle, in association with the Calcutta Debating Circle (CDC), organised a Workshop on Debating Skills followed by an Exhibition Debate on 30 July 2026 at Malay Manch for selected students of Classes X–XII.
The programme was graced by Chairman, Mr Kishan Kumar Kejriwal, Director, Mr Neelkantha Gupta, Principal, Mr Biswajit Majumder, and Senior School Headmistress, Ms Gargi Mukherjee. The day began with an inspiring address by the Principal where he highlighted the true essence of debating lies in learning to agree to disagree while respecting diverse perspectives and encouraged our students to make most of the learning opportunity.
The workshop was led by Mr Pradeep Gooptu, Founder Trustee of CDC, along with CDC mentors Mr Raju Raman, Ms Supriya Newar, Mr Debdipta Roy and Ms Sampurna Sanyal. Through interactive sessions, students learnt the ARE (Assertion–Reasoning–Examples) framework, effective argumentation, rebuttal techniques and public speaking skills.
The hands-on exhibition debate on the motion, “This House believes Plugging Paper Leaks Is Impossible,” provided the perfect opportunity for students to put their learning into practice. Subhosmit Chatterjee (12C) and Atharv Nagar (11D) were adjudged the Best Team, while Deepangshu Mitra (12B), who was also named Best Speaker, and Taksh Saigal (10D) finished as the Runner-up Team.
The workshop successfully strengthened students' critical thinking, confidence and communication skills, paving the way for excellence in oratory.
