Exploring India’s Maritime Legacy: Students at National Academic Conclave

Students of M. C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth participated in an enriching academic conclave titled India’s Maritime Roots and Global Links: Recent Perspectives , organised by the Indian Museum, Kolkata, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, on the occasion of its 212th Foundation Day on 2 February 2026, in collaboration with the Society of South Asian Archaeology.
The conclave offered students valuable insights into India’s ancient maritime traditions, overseas trade networks, and cultural exchanges from ancient to medieval times. Expert lectures and discussions highlighted the significance of ports, sea routes, and coastal communities in shaping India’s global connections.
The Guest of Honour, Shri Arijit Dutta Choudhary, Director General, National Council of Science Museums, emphasized the role of museums in fostering scientific temper and historical awareness. The keynote address by Prof Vasant S. Shinde, former Vice-Chancellor of Deccan College, Pune, showcased recent archaeological discoveries related to maritime trade. In the presidential address, Dr Yadubir Singh Rawat, Director General, Archaeological Survey of India, stressed heritage conservation and responsible research.
Special talks by eminent scholars further connected classroom learning with contemporary research, making the conclave a meaningful and inspiring academic experience for our students.
