Debating Excellence 2025: MCKV Chapter

M. C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth proudly hosted a Debate Workshop-cum-Exhibition Debate on 1 July 2025 as part of Debating Excellence 2025, organised by Calcutta Debating Circle (CDC) in collaboration with The Telegraph Young Metro. The event brought together eighty selected students of Classes 9 to 12, along with members of MCKV Debating Circle, for a truly enriching and intellectually stimulating experience.

The workshop was honoured by the presence of the following international debate champions and coaches:

Mr Jordan Anderson and Ms Heather Robinson (King’s College London)

Mr Elias Silver (Yale University)

Mr Hunter Haynes (Harvard University)

Mr Zachary Benjamin Fleeser (University of Oxford)

Mr Isaac Alun Ohringer (University of Cambridge)

They were joined by Mr Pradeep Gooptu and Mr Shankar Ramalingam of Calcutta Debating Circle, along with dedicated CDC volunteers.

The event was further graced by the presence of Chairman, Mr Kishan Kumar Kejriwal, Director, Mr Neelkantha Gupta, and Headmaster, Mr Biswajit Majumdar, who encouraged the participants with their words of motivation.

The workshop comprised technique sessions, demonstration debates, and small group mentoring, offering students valuable insight into the art and structure of debating. A hands-on practice debate followed, where students argued on the motion:
"This house believes that in a developing country like India, we need technically qualified people, not artists or performers."
Deepangshu Mitra (Class 11B) was declared Best Speaker for his compelling arguments and confident delivery.

The event successfully instilled vital debating and public speaking skills among the students, leaving a lasting impact and inspiring many to pursue excellence in oratory.
